Early Orthodontic Evaluations: Age 7
Did you know the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist around the age of 7?
Here’s why:
- At this age, we can monitor jaw growth and development.
- Early evaluations allow us to detect potential issues like crowding, bite problems, or spacing.
- By identifying these concerns early, we can determine the ideal time to begin treatment if needed.
While treatment may not start right away, early check-ins help set the stage for a healthy, confident smile.
Orthodontic Treatment for Adolescents: Ages 11–15
The most common time for orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 11 and 15, and for good reason!
- By age 12, most—or all—permanent teeth have erupted, making it easier to identify issues like:
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps
- Bad bites
- Bite corrections are most effective during the pubertal growth spurt, reducing the need for more invasive treatments later.
Why Teens Love Braces
Orthodontic treatment doesn’t have to be a chore for your teen. In fact, many adolescents look forward to getting braces because:
- It’s common—many of their peers are also getting braces.
- Braces are now a fun accessory, with colorful bands and modern designs.
Your child can straighten their smile and feel confident about their journey to healthier teeth!
